From Silence.
To Signal.
Bringing clarity to Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)
Here’s the problem.
FND is a condition that disrupts how the brain sends and receives signals throughout the body.
It can cause real, often debilitating symptoms—such as seizures, paralysis, tremors, or difficulty speaking or walking.
Unlike many neurological conditions, FND does not show up on standard scans, which can make it difficult to recognize and understand.
Patients are often misdiagnosed, dismissed, or left navigating a system that doesn’t fully understand the condition.
Clinicians, in turn, receive little training on how to diagnose or treat it.
Why Signalia Foundation Exists
I was diagnosed with FND five years ago.
As a journalist, I approached my own condition the same way I approach any investigation—by asking questions, following evidence, and speaking to experts and patients.
What I found was a gap.
Between what patients experience and what the system understands.
This foundation was created to help close that gap.

What We Do
Documentary Filmmaking
We are producing System Disrupted, a feature documentary that follows a rising investigative reporter as her life falls apart following a diagnosis of FND.
Desperate to get better after years of misdiagnosis and failed treatments, she quits her job to investigate her own condition in the hopes of personally finding her “impossible cure.”
Storytelling & Education
Through NavigatingFND on Instagram and YouTube, we translate complex medical and scientific information into clear, accessible narratives for the public, clinicians, and decision-makers.
Using investigative storytelling, we examine how medical knowledge is produced, where it breaks down, and how incentives, misinformation, and structural blind spots shape patient outcomes.
Access (In Development)
We are laying the groundwork for future collaboration across research, clinical practice, and patient communities, informed by the insights surfaced through our documentary and investigative work.
